¿Que Paso?

El 2 de Marzo, los medios de información empezaron a dar la nota de un caso extremo en el que se involucraba un joven de 21 años que responde al nombre de Diego Santoy Riverol y que en esa época era el novio de Erika Peña Coss, fue indiciado como el asesino de los menores Erik de 7 años y Maria Fernanda de 3 en el domicilio de estos en Monterrey Nuevo León México.

La cadena Televisa, ha dado una impresionante cobertura de los hechos, cosa que no es muy rara, dado que los noticieros nocturnos tienen ya una buena sección dedicada a la nota roja.

En los días subsecuentes se empezaron a difundir diferentes versiones sobre lo acontecido, en algunas se menciona que el chavo llego a la 4 de la mañana a la casa de Erika, y que se fue hasta la una de la tarde, que son aproximadamente nueve horas tiempo, levantando suspicacias como el hecho de que no era posible que nadie hubiese notado nada, ya que Erika y su hermana estaban dormidas al momento del infanticidio, en fin, lo más seguro es que poco a poco las cosas se aclaren, ¿o no?

Claramente al seguir la investigación y la cobertura del caso, empezó a fluir más información y rumores, en los que se hablaban de consumo de drogas por parte de la pareja de novios, empezó a sonar mucho el nombre de la mama de Erika, la astrologa Teresa Coss y Leon.

Pues durante las declaraciones salió a la luz que Diego Santoy fue su amante, lo que dio un móvil de celos y venganza con lo que Erika estaría implicada en el asesinato.

Entre la avalancha de información y desinformación del caso hay un texto escrito por el Padre de los pequeños, que arroja un poco de luz al caso y que se presenta a continuacion:

A media mañana, el novio de Erika llegó para convencer a mi hija de que regresaran. Supongo que ella lo rechazó. Él se volvió loco y atacó a Erika con un cuchillo grande de la cocina. Luego mi valiente príncipe de 7 años intervino en defensa de su hermana, y nuestra princesa de 3 años hizo lo mismo. Diego mató a mis dos angelitos con un cuchillo grande. Las pobres criaturas, mis adorados bebés, ¡murieron desangrados ahí ¡Ambos! Luego siguió atacando a mi hermosa hija, Erika, traspasándola por la espalda hasta el frente del tórax con el enorme cuchillo, perforándole el pulmón y cortándole el cuello tres veces.

The above is a translation of a father describing the deaths of two of his children that happened on March 2nd 2006, written the day after.
Her old ex-boyfriend arrived at the house mid-morning to convince my daugher to get back together, supposedly she was taking him back. He then went crazy and attacked her with a great big knife in the kitchen. My valiant son of seven years went to intervene in defense of his sister and our princess of three years did the same also. Diego killed my adorable little angels, BOTH! They died right there. He then continued on attacking my daughter he cut to from her back to the front of her thorax, punctured her lungs and cut her throat three times.

Having written about the horrible death of Imette St. Guillen, I really did not think that a case could match the horrific nature of that crime. This crime is more chilling for me to write about, but how could a case be more chilling than what happened to Imette? The ages of these innocent children coming to the defense of their older sister and having the father tell of these tragic events sends chills throughout my body. I think the knowledge of what really happened adds to the horror. You see Erika has had to give a statment from the hospital, a statement against her one and only boyfriend she had in her young life. While giving her statement she learned of the fates of her younger brother and little sister. So many times in crimes we do not know what happened, speculation comes into play. These murders were witnessed by Erika Pena while her siblings tried to rescue her.

The following letter in Spanish written by Erika’s father the day after these horrible murders.

Queridos Amigos:
Una enorme tragedia me ocurrió ayer… Mi preciosa hija Erika, de 18 años, había estado saliendo con el mismo muchacho, su primer novio, durante cerca de 3 años… Su nombre es Diego Santoy Riverol. Él nació el 9 de septiembre de 1994 (sic), en Matamoros, México. Tiene una estrecha conjunción Marte Urano abarcando su Ascendente natal. Era muy impulsivo, celoso más allá de su capacidad para controlarse.

Las antiguas amistades de Erika, algunas desde la época de la escuela primaria, otras de preparatoria, todas habían sido acosadas por él, porque era tan posesivo con ella y le prohibía tener una vida social normal.
Conociendo la carta de ella (nacida el 19 de septiembre de 1987 a las 2:45 horas en Guadalajara, México) y la de él, le pedí a ella que tuviera cuidado con el muchacho.

Él llegó a ser tan autoritario que ella decidió romper con él. Y me dijo que le había dicho que ella ya no quería ser su novia precisamente el día que el tránsito de Plutón en Sagitario abrió un orbe de un grado de la cuadratura para el natal Sol en Virgo de Erika que rige a su Ascendente Leo.

Le dije inmediatamente, frente a su hermana, Azura (de 19 años), que Diego iba a matarla. Me preocupé mucho y llamé a mi ex esposa, Tere Coss, y le dije que nuestra hija iba a ser asesinada por su loco novio, que deberíamos enviarla lejos de Monterrey, para que pasara un año en Guadalajara.

Ella me dijo que estaba consciente del peligro, pero que temía que algo malo pudiera pasarle si estaba lejos de nosotros, sugiriendo que podía quedarse aquí, pero teniendo cuidado.

Ayer, mi ex esposa estaba fuera de la ciudad en un viaje de negocios. Se suponía que Erika se levantaría temprano y llevaría a nuestro hijo Erik, de 7 años, a su escuela, y a nuestra princesa de 3 años, una hermosa niña de nombre Fernanda Ishtar, quien era mi motivo de alegría y orgullo, a su
guardería. Luego, a las 14:00 horas, mi otra hija recogería a nuestros dos bebés y los traería aquí para que comieran comigo como todos los días de escuela.

Pero Erika no se despertó a tiempo y no llevó a los niños a la escuela ni a la guardería. Se quedaron en casa. A media mañana, el novio de Erika llegó para convencer a mi hija de que regresaran. Supongo que ella lo rechazó. Él se volvió loco y atacó a Erika con un cuchillo grande de la cocina. Mi otra hija dormía durante todo esto, y para cuando se despertó, Erika se había arrastrado por la casa perdiendo casi toda la sangre. Azura se puso como loca cuando vio que la cabeza de su hermana estaba casi cercenada. Me llamó por teléfono gritando histérica, y me dijo que mi hijo había sido
asesinado y que Erika había sido llevada al hospital en una ambulancia. La Policía llegó y se llevó a Azura para que ayudara a localizar al asesino.

Tere fue notificada y tomó un avión de regreso a Monterrey, pero no llegó sino hasta las 20:00 horas de anoche. Para entonces, yo había pasado por la pesadilla de esperar cuatro horas afuera del quirófano donde seis doctores y un equipo de enfermeras se esforzaban para salvarle la vida a Erika.

El jefe de cirujanos, después de más de 5 horas, me dijo que Erika había llegado sin pulso: casi cero presión arterial y ritmo cardiaco… Le transfundieron 6 litros de sangre durante la operación, perdió más de un litro de sangre por su herida en el pulmón, e hicieron todo lo posible para repararle las venas del cuello. La vena yugular también fue cortada, lo que le causó una hemorragia masiva… Pero le curaron el cuello lo mejor que
pudieron.

Al ver el rostro de los médicos pude darme cuenta de que realmente habían hecho su mayor esfuerzo para devolverle la vida a mi preciosa hija. Sin embargo, ninguno quería decir que había alguna esperanza de estabilizarla sin peligro. No fue sino hasta después de medianoche que a mi esposa y a mí
nos permitieron entrar al cuarto de mi hija, adonde acababan de llevarla en la unidad de cuidados intensivos después de tantas horas en el quirófano.

Ahí estaba, mi pobre hija, con tubos por la boca, nariz y pecho, conectada a todos los monitores y aparatos, con los ojos casi completamente abiertos, pero inconsciente, con el cuello hecho un desastre. Era muy doloroso verlo, como bien pueden imaginarse. Mi ex esposa estaba siendo muy fuerte, pero no
sé, ha sufrido tanto que no sé si pueda superarlo. Pasa lo mismo con Azura, quien me da miedo que muera en silencio por toda la pena y el dolor. Pueden imaginarse nuestra tragedia. Hago mi mayor esfuerzo por parecer fuerte cuando las sostengo en mis brazos para consolarlas lo mejor que puedo.
Nuestros bebés estaban muy sanos, eran inteligentes y saludables, tiernos y amorosos. Siempre pensé que me habían bendecido tanto al tener unos ángeles de oro. Ahora el cielo se lo ha llevado.

Sólo puedo soportarlo porque nuestro lazo de amor nos mantiene unidos aun ahora que están muertos.

No he dormido en dos días en lo absoluto, y me acaban de notificar que los cuerpos de mi príncipe de 7 años y mi princesa de 3 años ya están en la
funeraria. Erik le había dicho a su madre recientemente que si moría no quería se lo comieran los gusanos. Así que Tere quiere incinerarlos, y decidimos que, aunque algunos nos aconsejan no hacerlo de inmediato, lo haremos inmediatamente. Hoy, viernes, a las 14:00 horas, nuestros dos tiernos y queridos bebés serán incinerados.

Como tengo tantos amigos pasivos en esta lista de envíos, algunos de hace muchos años, simplemente sentí esta necesidad de comunicarles la triste tragedia que me sucedió a mí y mis seres queridos.

In the first paragraph Erika’s father Gonzo tells of a terrible tragedy that had happened to him yesterday. He describes his precious daughter of 18 years and the relationship she had of three years with her first and only boyfriend. Diego was always impulsive and controlling of Erika and that is why they broke up.

Friendships that one has from early childhood and grade shool and junior high had all gone by the wayside for Erika, Diego was too controlling to allow her her own friendships, he would not allow her to have a normal social life. Gonzo warns his daughter to be careful with Diego. Diego has these thoughts, if I can not have you then no one can.

What is clear is there were warning signs, Erika saw those signs and so did Gonzo. I can’t even begin to imagine how Gonzo was able to write such a letter knowing what happened the day before. He tells in his own words of the attack and how his other daughter slept through the attack to awaken to this horror and called him hysterically screaming what just happened, Azura went crazy but when authorites arrived she went along with them help locate the murderer.

Gonzo describes seeing his daughter in the hospital with tubes in her nose and mouth and also in her chest. He says it was very painful to see her like that.

Nuestros bebés estaban muy sanos, eran inteligentes y saludables, tiernos y amorosos. Siempre pensé que me habían bendecido tanto al tener unos ángeles de oro. Ahora el cielo se lo ha llevado.

Translation for above
Our babies were always fine, they were intelligent and healthy. They were of this earth and loving. I always thought I was blessed to have angels of gold. Now heaven has taken them away.

Diego Santoy has already had his first arraignment on double murder charges. He along with his brother were traveling by autobus and were headed to Guatemala. They were caught and Diego was flown back to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Mexico. Meanwhile Diego is telling the tale of un pacto suicida. (suicide pact) Yeah right Diego, no tienes huevos, vete a la chingada pinché pendejo. May you enjoy a Mexican prison in the general population.

How many women take back an abusive spouse? Do not fall for any sob stories or I love you so much. If you are in an abusive relationship, get help and GET OUT. The life you save may be someone other than your own.

Update 3-13-06

This story of the tragic death is not being covered by the media in the US, as far as I know I am the only person that has covered this event in English. There are many statements that are being given and charges from the arraignment but they are all in Spanish and to translate them verbatim would take alot of time. I will give brief accounts of what is going on in this case.

Mauricio Santoy Riverol is the brother of Diego who committed these horrible acts on his ex-girlfriend and to her little brother and sister. I am not sure what role he played at this time other than trying to help his brother escape. The family of Erika Pena was well to do even though many people who live in Monterrey are very wealthy. They have a show on I believe it is TV Azteca about horoscopes. Most everyone that I have encountered from Mexico find the letter that Gonzo wrote to be quite long and strange for someone who just lost two of his children in the manner that he did. Myself, reading Gonzo’s letter I can understand the style of writing that Gonzo uses, the calmess that is displayed shows me that he and his wife really follow Astrology and their belief is in Astrology is what causes other people to find the letter odd.

I just saw Mauricio Santoy Riverol in court (Dated March 9, 2006) and he was listening to the charges that Diego is accused of, he was in tears throughout. Mauricio and Diego are separated by two years, Diego being younger. Actually I have not seen camera views so close up, it appeared as though the camera was inches from Mauricio’s face, they obviously zoomed in for the edited version aired on television. The commentaters then went on to discuss how he(Diego) was controlling, jealous and possessive. They mention having classes taught in schools so that young women will know the warning signs when they are in a dangerous relationship. I think we could follow suit from Mexico in this regard. They aslo discuss the pacto suicida that I mentioned above. Yes this is what Diego is saying they had made! I do not buy this at all! There is no way that Erika had planned a suicide pact with Diego. I have not heard much about the maid, she was not hurt and that is what has so many people upset from Mexico. Why hurt and murder these poor defenseless child to leave the maid untouched. She was said to have been placed in la cajuela with her wrists tied. Although Mauricio and Diego were captured on a bus heading for Guatemala. I wonder if they left their car with her in the trunk at the centro de autobus in Monterrey.

Erika has given a taped statement from the hospital in which she denies any suicide pact, at this time I have not heard the statement.

Siguiendo con los hechos sabemos que cuatro días después del asesinato en Cumbres, el 6 de marzo Diego y su hermano fueron detenidos alrededor de las 22:00 horas en un autobús de la línea ADO cuando se dirigían de Huatulco a Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, para llegar Guatemala.

Cuando Diego fue llevado a declarar acepto haber matado a los hermanos pequeños de Érika y a ésta haberla herido con un cuchillo en el cuello y la espalda. Aunque cabe destacar que horas después de la declaración Diego dijo haber sido torturado para decir lo anterior.
